Product Name
P. willinckii “SPLITFEATHER”
Provenance
Plant Description
P. willinckii “SPLITFEATHER” is a selected Platycerium willinckii individual, spore-grown and cultivated in-house by THE TRIBUS STUDIO ®.
It originates from spores of P. willinckii “Nadare”, a selected cultivar originating from the same batch of seedlings as “Jenny.” Nadare is known for its elongated, flowing fertile-frond structure.
“SPLITFEATHER” expresses a different morphological direction among Nadare-derived offspring, characterized by broad, flattened fertile fronds, dense white trichome coverage, and branching concentrated near the frond tips.
Propagation
The plant offered is a selected spore-grown individual cultivated in-house by THE TRIBUS STUDIO ®, originating from spores of P. willinckii “Nadare”.
Spore propagation involves sexual reproduction and genetic recombination, meaning the offspring are not exact genetic copies of the parent.
“SPLITFEATHER” was selected during cultivation for its broad, flattened fronds, dense white trichome coverage, and distinctive terminal branching structure.
Morphological Expression
The defining characteristics of “SPLITFEATHER” are its broad, flattened fertile fronds and terminal branching structure.
The fertile fronds maintain a broad, relatively undivided form through the proximal and middle sections. Rather than branching extensively along their length, the divisions develop primarily near the tips, creating a distinctive split-feather silhouette.
While Nadare is recognized for its slender, flowing frond structure, “SPLITFEATHER” emphasizes the contrast between a broad frond body and its divided terminal sections.
As the plant matures, the broad frond structure becomes increasingly pronounced, while the terminal divisions develop greater definition, creating a substantial yet refined silhouette.
Foliage Texture
The fertile fronds are covered with dense white trichomes, producing silvery-white to grayish-white coloration.
The broad, flattened frond surface provides an expansive area for trichome expression, creating a soft matte appearance with a substantial, clean, and layered silhouette.
The combination of dense white trichome coverage and broad frond proportions defines the distinctive foliage texture of “SPLITFEATHER.”
Care Tips
Light
Bright indirect light is recommended. Consistent and sufficient light supports healthy broad-frond development and white trichome expression.
If increasing light intensity, acclimate gradually and avoid sudden exposure to prolonged harsh direct sunlight.
Watering
Water based on the condition of the sphagnum moss ball.
Water when it feels lightly moist, similar to a wrung-out towel. Ensure proper airflow after watering to maintain a stable wet–dry cycle. Avoid both prolonged wetness and complete desiccation.
Airflow
Maintain consistent airflow to support proper drying after watering and healthy frond and root development.
For indoor cultivation, circulation fans or air conditioning can help maintain air movement. Avoid prolonged hot and stagnant conditions.
Temp & Humidity
Ideal at 22–30°C with 60–80% humidity.
Notes
“SPLITFEATHER” is an in-house spore-grown selection by THE TRIBUS STUDIO ®.
Derived from spores of P. willinckii “Nadare”, it was selected for its broad, flattened fronds, dense white trichome coverage, and distinctive terminal branching.
Spore-grown individuals undergo genetic recombination.
“SPLITFEATHER” is an independently selected individual rather than a vegetative clone of the Nadare parent.
If propagated through spores in the future, offspring are not guaranteed to reproduce the same broad-frond proportions, trichome density, or terminal branching characteristics.
Juvenile plants may not yet fully express the mature broad-frond proportions or terminal branching structure. These characteristics develop progressively with age.
Actual frond width, trichome coverage, branching position, and overall growth habit may vary depending on maturity, light exposure, and cultivation conditions.
The white trichomes are natural structures of the plant. Avoid frequent touching or wiping to preserve their surface coverage.
Allow 1–2 weeks of acclimation in a new environment. Observe the plant’s drying rate and growth condition before gradually adjusting watering and light levels.
